An Opportunity to Help Injured Marines and Their Families

Since September 11, 2001, United States Marines have been on the front line of the War on Terror. Their bravery and dedication have had a price. Many have been wounded, some seriously, and some resulting in

Semper Fi Fund

lifelong disabilities.

Because of medical advances, Marines are now surviving injuries that were once not survivable in past wars. They face extended hospital stays and months if not years of recovery and rehabilitation.

Few families are prepared to deal with the personal and financial disruption associated with leaving their home, their family, and their job to be with their loved one through long months of hopitalization, rehabilitation and recuperation.

The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund provides financial assistance to:

  •  Marines injured in combat and in training.
  •  Other service members injured while in direct support of Marine units.
  •  Their families.

This assistance is in the form of a grant with no expectation of repayment. Grants may help with immediate financial needs such as travel, childcare, lodging or problems resulting from lost wages. Assistance is also

given for long term needs such as modified homes and vans.

The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund relies on the generosity of its donors. You can help make a difference for our wounded heroes and their families during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Your support will help provide much needed financial assistance to help cover the expenses incurred when a family drops everything to be at their loved one's side.

Show your support for these wounded hereos by donating today.

Craig, good luck in the raise and in your fundraising.  While I ran and completed the Marines Corps Marathon in 2004, as you know, I just ran a 5K this morning -- the National Race for the Cure.  Not sure I'm up for the marathon this year.

Hi Leesa - Thanks for the good luck. I raised $2300 last year and although it's a lofty goal, I do think I can do it.

Hi Cynthia - Thank you for the well wishes and prayers. Yes, it is a worthy cause. The Marines at Bethesda Naval Medical Center and other rehabilitation centers appreciate the support very much.

Hi Brian - Thanks for the good luck. That's so cool you ran the Race for the Cure this morning. It was hot and steamy. I ran 6 miles and got zapped by the heat and humidity. I'm putting on a 10k and 5k this September. Maybe you'd like to come down and run? I'll send you a flyer when it's done.

What a great cause.  I feel for these men and women that have sacrificed so much for us.

Hi Cindy it is a great cause and a wonderful charity. Here's an email I received from my coordinator today:

-----

Dear Team Member, Thank you all for supporting the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. Your time and fundraising efforts allow us to fulfill our mission. Below is an example of how each of you has helped to make this happen.

LCpl J was initially injured in Iraq on February 5, 2006. He sustained shrapnel to his left knee, a left dislocated toe and a broken right tibia. After discharge to his home base, he felt tingling and numbness in his legs, eventually losing control and feeling in his legs He was diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, due to infection of his wounds.

He was left blind in one eye, paralyzed and suffered some mental deficiencies loss due to the illness. The IMSFF assisted with travel, lodging, food and loss of wages so that his parents could come from out of state to be with him. We also assisted with funds to pay for extensive cell phone bills, a normal occurrence when a family is facing a crisis.

The virus has taken it toll and he now needs full time nursing home care. The IMSFF assisted with $3600 to cover 1 month of total care as he cannot move on his own or talk. The prognosis is not positive. From Jan-March the IMSFF has assisted with over $6000 in family support so that they may be with their son and provide the best possible quality of life for all of them.
